The Rancilio Silvia espresso machine is now pod adaptable. Although Miss Silvia is now pod adaptable, this does not mean you must use a coffee pod. A pod adaptor kit can be purchased separately so that pods can be used. In other words, the reliable Rancilio Silvia is simply more flexible. At a quick glance, you know you are viewing the new Miss Silvia by looking at the drip tray. The new Silvia has holes and slots in the drip tray. The older version has only holes. You will also find that the new instruction manual refers to the POD adaptability.

The new Rancilio Silvia espresso machine is still an excellent single boiler machine made with quality components. It still features a brass boiler, brass lines and a chromed brass brewing head. Each of these brass parts help the Rancilio Silvia maintain temperature and heat distribution for espresso brewing.

Rancilio Silvia Features

Simple to Use Controls
Push the large central power button and an orange light comes on and stays on until the Rancilio Silvia is at operating temperature for espresso, steam or hot water. Three more professional grade rocker switches let you chose which one of those options you want. Top is for brewing, the middle for hot water and the bottom one is for steam. Flip the brew switch on the Rancilio Silvia and that rich, hot liquid will start to flow. Switch it off when you have the amount you want. For hot water, simply flip the middle switch; open the steam valve knob and hot water gushes from the steam wand. For lattes and cappuccinos, flip the bottom steam button. When the orange light goes off, open the steam valve and begin steaming your milk.

Milk Frothing and Hot Water
The Rancilio Silvia features a straightforward, chrome plated steam wand that delivers plenty of ready steam for frothing. In 1.5 minutes, the Rancilio Silvia will have enough steam to bring the milk in the average sized latte up to temperature. The steam wand also doubles as the outlet for hot water. Simply press the hot water button and hot water will be dispensed for making beverages such as the Americano or tea.

Quality Brewing Group
The Rancilio Silvia grouphead (or the component that accepts the portafilter where the filter basket is placed) is made of chrome-plated brass. The Silvia grouphead evenly distributes heat and reduces “hotspots.” It has also been designed to evenly distribute water across the coffee grounds for a better, more consistent extraction.

Commercial-Grade Portafilter and Filter Baskets
Keeping with the tradition of using only commercial grade components, the Rancilio Silvia uses a heavy-duty chrome plated brass portafilter, which features a rugged plastic handle. The Rancilio Silvia comes with two 58 mm stainless steel filter baskets: one is a single shot basket and the other is for making a double.

Commercial Quality Pressure Release System
The Rancilio Silvia features a pressure relief system that helps reduce splatter in the event you remove the portafilter too quickly. The pressure relief system also reduces dripping after the brew switch has been turned off. Silvia sports a three-way solenoid valve.

The Rancilio Silvia features a water pump that delivers all the pressure you’ll need for brewing true Italian espresso.

The Rancilio Silvia has a stainless steel drip pan and a stainless steel cup tray. Both parts are removable for easy cleanup. The cup-warming surface on the top of the machine is perfect for preheating your cups.

12 oz. Brass Boiler
The boiler is made of heat distributing brass which permits the water temperature to rise quickly and stay there. Three thermostats are built into the Rancilio Silvia that control the temperature for espresso, steam, and the boiler. The thermostat in the boiler specifically monitors the boiler to protect it from overheating in the event the machine is left unattended for long periods. Should the boiler overheat, the thermal protection thermostat can be reset.

One Tough Body
The Ranchilio Silvia is housed in brushed stainless steel. Inside the housing you will find that Rancilio used a rust resistant steel frame, stainless steel bolts and screws, and only the finest tubing and fittings.

Cleaning & Maintenance of Components – Additional Information
In order to keep the inside of your machine healthy; it must be periodically cleaned. Scale buildup from naturally occurring minerals in your water can accumulate on sensitive components like the inside of the boiler. When left uncleaned, these buildups can cause considerable damage. By descaling your machine every two-three months, your machine will deliver years of trouble free operation. Espresso machine cleaner can be purchased from us or by calling the support number in your user guide. For descaling, we recommend Cleancaf.

Wastewater left over from the rinsing cycles is stored in the removable drip tray that simply pulls out from the machine and it reinserts is seconds. The drip tray and water tank need periodic cleansing with dish soap and warm water.

Installation and Accessories
The Rancilio Silvia espresso machine requires no special plumbing or electrical outlets. Just plug it in and it’s ready to operate. With purchase, the Rancilio Silvia comes with two filter baskets, one for a single shot and the other for a double shot. It also comes with a plastic coffee tamper, measuring spoon and an instruction manual.
