Hearthware i-Roast 2 Home Coffee Roaster
Free Shipping with I-Roast 2 purchase
If you’re ready to start home roasting, the Hearthware i-Roast 2 home coffee roaster is a great place to begin. The I-Roast 2 is a cost-effective, easy to operate, small batch coffee roaster designed specifically for home use.
From first roast forward, the I-Roast 2 is easy to use. Add 1 cup of green beans (some users prefer ¾ cup) to the glass roasting pot, select your preset roasting profile and press a button to start the roast. A current of hot air will move upward through the beans. The hot air both roasts and mixes the beans during the roasting cycle. This air stream carries the chaff away from the beans and moves it upward, to a collector near the top neck of the roasting pot. During the final minutes of a roasting cycle, a cool down mode will decrease the bean temperature.
The I-Roast 2 comes preprogrammed with two roasting profiles:
Preset 1 is a one stage roast, roasting for 10 minutes at 450F. If you are planning to use this preset profile, use only 70-80 grams of beans.
Preset 2 roasts in three stages as follows: Stage 1 roasts for 6 minutes at 455F, Stage 2 roasts for 4 minutes at 400F and Stage 3 roasts for 1 minute and 30 seconds at 435F.
Although the two preset profiles exist, they are programmed in as place to begin. Use them as guidelines. Once you’re involved in the roasting process, you’ll be using your senses of smell, sight and sound to help guide you. As you approach a roast you desire, hit the “cool” button so you don’t over roast. As you learn, you’ll want to increase or decrease times and temperatures. Your adjustments can be programmed in as your own profiles. The I-Roast 2 can store up to 10 profiles you select.
Keep a Roasting Log
By adjusting temperatures and times, roast types and bean types, you will begin to create your perfect roasts. During this process, we strongly recommend keeping a roasting log. A roasting log will help you repeat successful roasts and recall origins and roasts you prefer. A roasting log should include: the time and temperature for all roast stages, ambient temperature (temperature of the room or space in which you are roasting), type of beans, screen size of beans, degree and time of roast at first and second crack, amount of chaff, type of roast and cupping results. Keep in mind that a variation in any of these factors will affect the roast. In addition, different locations may have different voltage. This too will affect the roast.
During the roasting cycle, the I-Roast 2 allows you to check the roasting temperatures. Further, the ongoing roasting time can be increased or decreased during the third stage. A roasting cycle can yield a maximum of 15 minutes. The LCD display shows the time count down and hot air temperature.
The I-Roast 2 has a 1 Cup (150 grams, or 5.3 oz) green bean capacity. This capacity will yield about 24 cups of coffee.
READ THE MANUAL!
If you are not the kind of person who reads instruction manuals, make an exception this time. The I-Roast 2 can reach extreme temperatures, capable of burning coffee beans. As with all roasters, the I-Roast 2 should never be left unattended while roasting. It’s possible to not only burn the coffee, but you could also damage your roaster and create a fire hazard.
Accessories
The I-Roast 2 ships with an instruction manual, 4 inch exhaust adaptor ring (smoke vent), 1/2 cup measuring devise and a cleaning brush. When purchased at Better Espresso, the I-Roast 2 also ships free of charge with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Hearthware provides a warranty that extends to one year from date of purchase.
